European Economic and Social Committee President, Dimitris Dimitriadis, hosts an online debate

28/04/2008 by: Petru Dumitru

The first online debate, which was organised in the framework of Spring Day for Europe 2008, took place at the European Schoolnet Office, in Brussels, on 15 April 2008. Mr Dimitris Dimitriadis, the president of the European Economic and Social Committee hosted the online debate. The debate theme was “Entrepreneurship and cultures through dialogue”.

14 schools from 11 European countries - Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania - prepared questions on the basis of an online resource set. The resources cover subjects such as basics of entrepreneurship as well as detailed information about business development and dynamism, active industrial policy and innovatory economy.

In addition to the first piece of advice to young people to take a risk when starting a business, Mr Dimitriadis pointed out that entrepreneurship and culture influence each other “especially in this historical age in which the entrepreneurs have more duties than rights and they must first understand and then participate in the concept of corporate social responsibility”.

More online debates are scheduled within the forthcoming weeks. European Commission Vice President Margot Wallström, European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering and Commissioner Ján Figel' have already confirmed their participation in online debates on the Spring Day for Europe 2008 website.
