Guess who is going to back to school 22/05/2008 by: Petru Dumitru
"Guess who is going back to school" is an operation in which public figures such as local, national and European politicians and experts pay a visit to their former schools or to any other school. The purpose of the operation is to strengthen contacts between young Europeans and decision-makers in an attempt to bring Europe closer to its citizens.
“Guess who is going back to school” is part of the Spring Day for Europe campaign. It has the purpose of inviting public figures and experts to visit schools and host debates that focus on the latest developments in the European Union. Past Spring Day school visits involved more than 1000 public figures, including EU Commissioners, Members of the European Parliament, state presidents, members of national parliaments and others.
The registered schools with Spring Day can invite public figures to pay them a visit. To draft their invitation letter, teachers and students may adapt a text which is published on our website.
"Guess who is going back to schools" is a different initiative from "EU Back to schools", which is part of a communication effort of the European Commission, the European Parliament and national governments to better communicate Europe to young people. Prepared by the Commission and by the government of the concerned Member State, EU Back to schools has already taken place in Germany, Portugal, Slovenia and the Netherlands. Schools involved in this operation are strongly recommended to get registered in Spring Day for Europe in order to continue to reinforce their knowledge about the EU.
