Who's Going Back to School?
Local, national and European public figures join Spring Day for Europe and visit schools across Europe. Such visits are an opportunity to discuss European themes and give visibility and recognition to the voice of young people in Europe.

14 May 2008: Interview with MEP Katerina Batzeli, Chairwoman of the Committee on Culture and Education at the European Parliament

Mrs Katerina Batzeli, MEP, Chairwoman of the Committee on Culture and Education at the European Parliament, hosted a Spring Day online debate at European Schoolnet on 14 May 2008. The debate theme was about opening doors through intercultural dialogue and how to benefit from cultural exchange opportunities. 16 June 2008: Interview with Commissioner Figel’, responsible for Education, Training, Culture and Youth

Commissioner Figel’, responsible for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, hosted an online debate on the Spring Day website on 16 June 2008. The debate has been the fourth event of this kind since 2005, when the guest decided to interact with Spring Day schools on a yearly basis. The debate theme focused on intercultural dialogue and understanding, as topics that are introduced and learnt at school. Before joining the debate, Commissioner Figel’ answered some questions about cultures and intercultural dialogue. (Interviewer Chris Jenkins, Web editor at the European Schoolnet Office in Brussels).
15 April 2008: Interview with Dimitris Dimitriadis, President of the European Economic and Social Committee

On 15 April 2008, following an online debate that was hosted at European Schoolnet Office, in Brussels, Mr Dimitris Dimitriadis, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, gave an interview in English and Greek. The online debate focused on “Entrepreneurship and cultures through dialogue”. (Interviewer Evita Tasiopoulou, webmaster at the European Schoolnet Office in Brussels).

Spring Day for Europe grows to 4000!
4000 schools have already joined Spring Day for Europe 2008. On 5 June, the Agrupamento de Escolas de Mogadouro, from Portugal, was the 4000th school to register. Spring Day for Europe is an annual initiative that in 2008 runs from 25 March until 30 June.
3000 schools registered with Spring Day
3000 schools from European Union Member States and beyond have now registered to take part in Spring Day for Europe 2008. On 21 April 2008, IES Zaframagon, Olvera from Spain became the 3000th school to register with Spring Day for Europe 2008.
Spring Day for Europe 2008 website launched
For the sixth time, European Schoolnet, on behalf of the European Commission, is coordinating the Spring Day for Europe campaign. On 17 March 2008 a new web portal was launched to encourage schools to register and take part in a large series of events. The new format of Spring Day for Europe covers the next five years giving a different focus every school year. The campaign is part of “Plan D” for increased democracy, dialogue and debate.
